CONTINUED government intervention into the people’s lives is its own kind of tyranny, but what the people have to do then is demand that their government BACK OFF. And that brings me full-circle to my recent pontification on firm, PEACEFUL protest as a citizen’s duty. What’s missing from the aforementioned is this: The people must protest their government’s inaction when government needs to act, and then protest their government’s intrusion when government needs to back off. It goes on and on and on. But then again, what doesn’t?
What kinds of government interventions are you referring to, Jake? The tyrannical ones, you reply. And which ones are those? What makes them “tyrannical”? Seems like more than a few of our senators and fellow citizens (at least the ones with lobbying money and power) thought that a federal law requiring background checks for all gun purchases was tyrannical, intrusive, a bad use of the coercive power of the State. My guess is that you think such a law would be a morally good–even obligatory–use of State authority. Give us some examples of tyrannical interventions–other than printing too many dollars.
